Engineering is an exciting, varied and rewarding career ... Earn, learn & create a different career option.

Engineers build the world around us; they create, design, innovate, invent, evaluate and enhance our lives on a daily basis.

There is a UK wide shortage of young people in engineering and the take up by girls is still disappointingly low as is the experienced talent pool. Goodwin is championing female apprentices to fill future engineering and management roles. Our aim is to challenge the views of girls about engineering and put engineering at the top of a girl’s career choices.

Our continued investment in training people is an essential part of business life. We aim to develop skills where integrity and proficiency are our bridge to the future. The apprenticeship lasts for a period of four years with an initial 12 month off-the-job formal basic training. Thereafter on-the-job training is
given at one of the subsidiary companies.

All apprentices qualify to Level 3 in Manufacturing Engineering and gain further qualifications depending on their journey within the Group.

The Group pays above average apprentice wage rates with good potential future earnings.

Charlotte

Design Engineer

I started my Goodwin Apprenticeship
after completing my A-levels at college.
I decided to go straight into work instead of going to university…this was definitely the best choice!

Following placements around the Group, my current role is now within Easat Radar Systems as a Design Engineer where I take a job from the design stage through to completion. I also do project management work and recently travelled to Toronto to complete a site survey.

Hannah

Graphics Co-Ordinator

My initial thoughts on the apprenticeship were fairly rigid with my ideas on engineering careers being a bit stereotyped! I didn’t realise the varied scope of roles that were available.

I have enjoyed learning new software and becoming an accredited and useful member of a highly skilled studio.

Astin

Radiographer

The job keeps me busy… there’s always something to do or something to learn!

I particularly enjoy doing radiography in the Jubilee X-ray facility for Goodwin Steel Castings, as we tend to get the more challenging castings in there for nuclear and naval applications.

Ashleigh

Technical Engineer

After finishing school I started my apprenticeship at the Goodwin Training Centre and completed my Level 3 in just three months!

I completed many placements at the Goodwin companies, from IT through to radiography, gaining lots of knowledge and job experience. I finally settled in the Technical Department at Dupré Minerals where I am developing and testing new products.

Jade

NDT Technician

My initial placements involved lots of assembly work in the valves and pumps departments before I moved on to NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) which would become my full-time role! It suited me perfectly as every task is different and is very hands on!

In this role I have completed many new qualifications making me a fully qualified NDT Operator and I am a valued member of a busy department.
